Come one, come all! In 1913, San Diego got its very first amusement park. Wonderland, an 8-acre amusement park on the beach in Ocean Beach featured the largest roller coaster on the west coast and a large collection of exotic animals. It was wildly successful for a couple of years, but the the California Exposition in Balboa Park stole most of their patrons. In a cool twist of fate though, the failed amusement park auctioned off its animal collection to the mostly-a-failure San Diego Zoo. That auction helped turn the Zoo around and helped it become one of the best Zoos in the United States.
